Gurugram May 2015 | Preface

Blessed Self,
Om Namah Sivaya

By the grace of Swamiji we are extremely happy to let you know that new temple construction in Uttarkashi was completed. The installation ceremonies are scheduled for 2nd and 3rd of May 2015. This temple is one of the unique South Indian architectural marvels and a first of its kind for Lord Siva in the Himalayan region.

We are also happy to inform you that there was a ground breaking ceremony conducted in our Bahamas Ashram, in anticipation of the upcoming construction of a new temple. Soon you will hear about fundraising and sponsoring opportunities for the Temple.

Our Executive Board Members recently met at our Headquarters in Val Morin, Quebec, Canada, Yoga Camp Ashram, to discuss the directions we all can make in going forward with Swamiji’s mission and to preserve the teachings in its purity.

All other Ashrams and Centres are extremely busy with imparting the knowledge of Yoga and Meditation for the increasing number of eager students coming through the doors of the Organization.

May Master and Swamiji bless us always in our Sadhana and service.

Pranams to all.

Non-attachment is life eternal. Renunciation is the bestower of peace and immortality. – Sri Swami Sivananda

Raja Yoga

From Discourse IV: “Kaivalya Pada – On Realization”

IV.11. HETU-PHALASRAYALAMBANAIH SAMGRHITATVAD ESAM ABHAVE TADABHAVAH

‘Desires are held together by cause, effect, support and objects; and when these disappear, so do the desires.’

Commentary: What gives momentum to desires is cause and effect, past Karma, the activity of the mind which creates the desires and the objects of the desires. When these foundations are removed so are the desires.

and…

Discourse III: “Vibhuti Pada- On Divine Powers” III.56. SATTVA-PURUSAYOH SUDDHI-SAMYE KAIVALYAM ‘Kaivalya (liberation) is attained when there is equality between “sattwa” (purity) and “Purusha”(the Soul)’. Commentary: Liberation takes place when the mind has the same purity as “Purusha” itself. The purified mind recognizes its nature as “Purusha”. The essence of this nature is, and always has been, bliss, freedom, peace, Self-sufficiency and perfection.

Be kind. Be compassionate. Be honest. Be sincere. Be truthful. Be bold. Be pure. Be wise. Be virtuous. Enquire: ‘who am I’? Know the Self and be free. This is the summary of the teachings of Siva. – Sri Swami Sivananda

Bhagavad Gita Quote

Chapter XVI: The Yoga of the Division Between the Divine and the Demoniacal

XVI.10. KAAMAMAASHRITYA DUSHPOORAM DAMBHAMAANAMADAANVITAAH;
MOHAADGRIHEETVAASADGRAAHAAN PRAVARTANTE’SHUCHIVRATAAH.

(Krishna speaking to Arjuna)
Filled with insatiable desires, full of hypocrisy, pride and arrogance, holding evil ideas through delusion, they (the demoniacal) work with impure resolves.

XVI.11. CHINTAAMAPARIMEYAAM CHA PRALAYAANTAAMUPAASHRITAAH;
KAAMOPABHOGAPARAMAA ETAAVADITI NISHCHITAAH.
Giving themselves over to immeasurable cares ending only with death, regarding gratification of lust as their highest aim and feeling sure that that is all.

XVI.12. AASHAAPAASHASHATAIRBADDHAAH KAAMAKRODHAPARAAYANAAH;
EEHANTE KAAMABHOGAARTHA MANYAAYENAARTHASANCHAYAAN.
Bound by a hundred ties of hope, given over to lust and anger, they strive to obtain by unlawful means hoards of wealth for sensual enjoyment.

It is a shameful slur on you if you bear a grudge or ill-will towards anybody. – Sri Swami Sivananda

Glossary

KAIVALYA – liberation from rebirth; independence from all bondages and cycles of Life; the ultimate goal of Raja Yoga. The Brahma Sutra (B.S. 2.1.33) says: God created the World – Lokavattu Lila Kaivalyam. The creation of the World has a purpose. This plane of existence is His play of creation where liberation and joy can be attained by learning the lessons. Just as we cannot have a sun without rays, similarly, we cannot have God without the World process. It is His Svabhava, His Nature. – Sri Swami Sivananda

Introspect. Watch the mind. It will gradually grow calmer and calmer. You will be able to find your defects. – Sri Swami Sivananda
