Gurugram January 2019 | Preface

Blessed Self,
Om Namah Sivaya
Greetings from the Yoga Camp Sivananda Headquarters in Val Morin, Canada.
2018 has come and gone and we would like to take a moment to thank all of you who have made this year such a success! All of you were essential in continuing Master Sivananda and Swami Vishnudevananda’s mission of bringing peace and harmony into this world. You have all helped through your practice, through your prayers, through your effort to be the best that you can be amidst the adversities and challenges that we each face in this wonderful life journey.
Every student, every guest, every karma yogi and staff that have at any point passed through our Centres and Ashrams, have made possible for several others to benefit from these ancient teachings and practices. We would like to express our gratitude for your support which has been invaluable to us in order to maintain the locations and support other communities. Without your help we would not have been able to stretch our arms and help many other charities across the world to alleviate suffering and bring a helping hand.
This year we have been able to help support various schools, asylums, orphanages and more. We believe that with the support from all of you, we will be able to not only continue with this mission in this new year, but to expand even further. Being able to share our loving hearts and warm hands to help those who need.
May Master and Swamiji’s blessings be upon you all. May your new year be full of peace, joy and love!
We thank you all for your continued support and encouragement.

Raja Yoga

From Discourse IV:
“Kaivalya Pada – On Realization”

IV.11.
HETU-PHALASRAYALAMBANAIH SAMGRHITATVAD ESAM ABHAVE TADABHAVAH

“Desires are held together by cause, effect, support and objects; and when these disappear, so do the desires.”

Commentary:

What gives momentum to desires is cause and effect, past Karma, the activity of the mind
which creates the desires and the objects of the desires. When these foundations are removed so are the desires.

From Discourse III:
“Vibhuti Pada- On Divine Powers”

III.56.
SATTVA-PURUSAYOH SUDDHI-SAMYE KAIVALYAM

“Kaivalya (liberation) is attained when there is equality between “sattwa” (purity) and ‘Purusha'(the Soul).”

Commentary:

Liberation takes place when the mind has the same purity as “Purusha” itself. The purified
mind recognizes its nature as “Purusha”. The essence of this nature is, and always has been, bliss, freedom, peace, Self-sufficiency and perfection.

Bhagavad Gita Quote

Chapter XVI: The Yoga of the Division Between the Divine and the Demoniacal

XVI.10. KAAMAMAASHRITYA DUSHPOORAM DAMBHAMAANAMADAANVITAAH;
MOHAADGRIHEETVAASADGRAAHAAN PRAVARTANTE’SHUCHIVRATAAH.
(Krishna speaking to Arjuna)
Filled with insatiable desires, full of hypocrisy, pride and arrogance, holding evil ideas through delusion, they (the demoniacal) work with impure resolves.
XVI.11. CHINTAAMAPARIMEYAAM CHA PRALAYAANTAAMUPAASHRITAAH;
KAAMOPABHOGAPARAMAA ETAAVADITI NISHCHITAAH.
Giving themselves over to immeasurable cares ending only with death, regarding gratification of lust as their highest aim and feeling sure that that is all.
XVI.12. AASHAAPAASHASHATAIRBADDHAAH KAAMAKRODHAPARAAYANAAH;
EEHANTE KAAMABHOGAARTHA MANYAAYENAARTHASANCHAYAAN.
Bound by a hundred ties of hope, given over to lust and anger, they strive to obtain by unlawful means hoards of wealth for sensual enjoyment. Cling not to your ego, your lower self and limited mundane life. – Sri Swami Sivananda
