Sivananda World News: The Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres

Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Zentrum, Berlin, Germany

Om Namah Sivaya! In March the Centre was closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. We started with online Yoga classes, via Zoom, together with Vienna, Munich and Reith and were very well received by the students. In the first week classes were all for free. Staff also started preparing renovation works in the Berlin Centre, freshly painting the interior walls. Every evening all staff participated at the online Satsang coming from the Seminar House in Reith, Austria. Each Satsang was the highlight of the day, giving the feeling of being connected with each other and keeping the energy elevated.

Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, Buenos Aires, Argentina, South America

Om Namah Sivaya. In early March Swami Premananda and Swami Dayananda traveled to Bariloche for TTC 2020. At the BA Centre Swami Sivapriya remained as Staff, with the help of karma yogis and teachers. Despite the coronavirus warning we had a yoga class with twenty elders. In Buenos Aires there remained some tranquility despite the news of the virus. We cleaned everything more than usual. A Beginners’ Yoga Course with many students commenced. Two new teachers from the recent TTC in Brazil joined the Centre’s group of teachers.

COVID-19 Notice:
The official resolution in Argentina to cancel classrooms and avoid meeting places has led us to define the closure of the Buenos Aires Centre. It is a complex situation and alien to our will. On the other hand, we must help the non-propagation of this virus by maintaining the standards provided by the official information media.

Try to strengthen your immune system, maintain a high level of personal hygiene, cleanliness and disinfection in your homes and places of coexistence, eat healthy and cultivate positive thinking. For this, meditation, prayer and the study of spiritual texts can help to overcome physically, mentally and emotionally this hard test that is presented in the path of all beings on this beautiful planet.

We ask you to continue the practice from your homes and for any queries do not hesitate to contact us. If changes or news arise, we will inform you.

We hope all of you are well. Pranams. Om.

Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, Chengdu, China

Om Namah Sivaya from Chengdu. May Guru’s Grace bless everyone. Om Shanti. Om.

Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

Om Namah Sivaya to all Blessed Selves from the Chennai Centre. In March the Chennai weather was dry & hot. The entire Chennaiaite’s busy life slowed down not with the fear of Coronavirus but with the respect to our Prime Minister’s request for social distancing & precautions towards reducing the spread of infection, including the closing of shops, malls, theatres & traffic. The Centre remained opened for a little longer, instilling all precautions. Students and staff were educated on how to remain safe, explaining the measures to improve their immunity. All were very enthusiastic to attend the classes. But our gentle yoga for the elderly & the kids’ classes count was less. We held a short Meditation course for 3 days. The course was led by Uma. Seven new people attended with enthusiasm. We welcomed a new staff Deva from Madurai. Then publicly, a “Janata Curfew”, self-restraining order, was instilled by the government to stop spreading the infection. We closed the Centre, suspending all activities.

COVID-19 Notice:
Our Chennai Centre will remain closed due to order from the Government for “Corona social distancing” to stop the spread.

Praying for everyone to be safe & healthy. May all live under the grace of Master and Guru. Pranams. Om.

Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, Chicago, USA

Om Namah Sivaya. The Chicago Centre is sending prayers to everyone in support of this cherished practice during this time. The guidance from the Gurus is paramount. The later part of March was quite jumbled, originally with plans of staff to remain at the Chicago Centre while closed, shifted in a couple of days, to relocate and stay at the Ranch in New York. Maitri, the Centre’s director, will remain at the Ranch Ashram during the closure of businesses in Chicago, supporting and receiving support while keeping up with Sadhana and keeping vibrations high for humanity’s healing. With love and hope that we can all hold a neutral space of support for each other and the rest of the world, in a haven outside of the realm of fear.

COVID-19 Notice:
The Sivananda Centres in New York City and Chicago, as well as the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Ranch are closed to the public as a proactive measure to help stem the spread of the COVID 19 virus. Since then, the epidemic in the USA and especially in New York has grown exponentially. From the day we closed, we gathered our Centre staff at the Yoga Ranch to continue our practice, to support each other and to do what we can to continue with our mission of disseminating the Yoga teachings and support the Sivananda Yoga community in a growing isolated environment. Respecting social distancing, we started live Satsangs, study groups and asana classes using the growing social media software of Facebook Live and Zoom.

We are grateful to the Gurus for continuing to protect and inspire our Sadhana. We wish you awareness of Guru’s Grace. Pranams to all. Om Shanti, Shanti, Shantihi. Om.

Sivananda Yoga Vedanta DÀ LAT Centre, Dà Lat, Vietnam

Om Namah Sivaya from the beautiful DaLat Centre. In early March our Open House class received more attention from the neighborhood. We continued the Open House class everyday. During the COVID 19 crisis we only served the local Dalat students and not people from out of town or out of country. There is no case in the province and the government did not lock down the county yet. We have applied intensive hygiene measures for prevention, students have appreciated and cooperated well. Open class and Beginners’ Yoga course continued. Staff kept up their Sadhana and service, energy deepening. We pray for Guru’s grace and blessings for the new Centre. Om.

Swami Sitaramananda states; “This is a blessing in disguise. Turn in. Less travel, less movement. More practice opportunities. Clearer. Instead of being bored, see this event as an opportunity to look inward and go straight to your own goal of happiness. Indeed, it is a blessing in disguise. ”

Sivananda Yoga Vedanta DWARKA Centre, Delhi, India

Om Namah Sivaya to all – In early March we started a Beginners’ Yoga course at 10 am and 6:30 pm with good numbers of students. Even though people were beginning to become concerned about the CORONAVIRUS pandemic, they still arrived to the Centre for their regular practice of yoga and various workshops. We started a meditation course with few enthusiastic students. We had teachers day where we discussed the points of teaching a class and an Asana Correction workshop, which the teachers appreciated.

Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, Geneva, Switzerland

Om Namah Sivaya. In mid March the Geneva Centre closed. We started with online classes and Satsangs. The classes went well, with people from various countries attending. The Satsang was a bit more difficult, in terms of sound and computer management. So we decided to mainly attend Satsangs through Reith, Austria and may be do one Satsang for the teachers in Geneva once a week. The Geneva teachers were very helpful. The renovation work outside the Centre but slowed down. We pray that all are well and that humanity is going to a higher level of consciousness, with more focus on love and unity rather than competition and separation.

COVID-19 Notice:
Due to recent government measures to contain the coronavirus, the Sivananda Yoga Centre in Geneva will remain closed from March 15, until further notice. Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Om Namah Sivaya. In early March we took stronger actions on general and personal hygiene with the looming news of the Coronavirus. We allowed a maximum of 6 students in each class for social distancing measures, as instructed by Swami Sita. So we had less students but more classes to teach. One beginner class was separated into two classes. Satsang was held in the biggest asana room on the top floor for the first time, to keep the safe distance between 2 people, with 12 – 22 people attending. The staff was busier but stronger than ever. We then closed the Centre mid March.

COVID 19 Notice:
We closed the HO Chi Minh Centre after the latest announcement from the government.

Pranams to the Sivananda Family. Om.

Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, London, England

Om Namah Sivaya. Prayers and Greetings from London Centre. In early March the London Centre’s activities dramatically decreased after the government recommendations to stay and work at home as much as possible; to avoid travelling unless really necessary, and to avoid public places. There were many cancellations from our teachers. The Centre closed mid March. Chandra worked from home. Sivapriya continued work for a week and helped with various administration projects. Vishwarkarma spent one full day here to do maintenance work. His generosity with his time, skill and effort seems to be limitless. Dayan concluded her last day of karma yoga at the Centre and returned home. She did an excellent service throughout her stay at the Centre. We were very grateful to her for her contribution. For three days in a row, Colin was here all day and also did great service. He has been like a pillar for the Centre. The prana was mainly focused on preparing the Centre for closure during the Coronavirus crisis. Kailas went to the Orleans Ashram in France during this time of confinement. The online classes were set up from the Orleans Ashram for the London students. This new learning experience for all had us very grateful that we can continue to serve our students this way.

COVID-19 Notice:
The Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre London is now closed until further notice. We are offering classes and Satsangs online. For more information, please call us on +33 (0) 2 38 91 88 82. With best wishes for health and inner peace. OM.

Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, Los Angeles, CA, USA

Om Namo Narayanaya. In early March we were pleased to welcome Swami Sankarananda to visit for a weekend, speaking on the topic of Faith. We explored false notions and imagined limitations. We looked at Chapter 17 of the Bhagavad Gita. We chanted bhajans and mantras. He suggested that it is impossible to live comfortably in these times, so we should live uncomfortably, step back and see the interconnectedness. He encouraged us to “spread the virus of Peace,” with the single goal of “God or bust.” Swamiji gave heartfelt answers to many questions and captivated the students with a few stories from his walking pilgrimage. We were grateful for his loving presence. Rukmini, who took TTC in 2008, joined our staff.

Due to the coronavirus, we stopped teaching even small yoga classes. We made a quick transition to teaching online—two Gentle yoga classes to complement the two 2-hour classes being taught online at the Yoga Farm. Swami Sivasankariananda started a 30-Day Pranayama Challenge on Instagram Live, offering sessions at 8:00am and 5:00pm with about 35 people in each session. Saturday morning we started a Yoga 1 course online—with 4 beginners tuning in on Zoom from Brazil. We made phone calls to half of our students, reaching out to offer support and alert them to the new offerings. They were extremely appreciative. SivaRam arrived from India via Hawaii. He will be resident for the near future. Rukmini left, flying to the east coast while flights were still available.

COVID-19 Notice:
The Sivananda Yoga Centre in Los Angeles is closed until California businesses are cleared to reopen. We hope that with the help of quarantine situation at least one book will be prepared for printing. Quite soon the idea of teaching online started to unfold, the preparatory work engaged the mind greatly and it was very interesting to learn new technical things. So other projects were bit postponed as we fully concentrated on setting up the teachings online. We started with the three classes. Many students registered for the classes. It was a good idea as we had the opportunity to meet our students in Zoom online and even talk a bit after the class. Every day we called our teachers and students, asking about their situation, encouraging them to attend the classes and Satsangs online and to stay connected. A few newsletters were sent out. The Satsangs from Reith online allowed us to feel like a family and derive strength and faith for everyday work and Sadhana. Health and Peace to all.

Glossary

OM (AUM):

This sacred syllable, sometimes written AUM, is the original mantra. The Sanskrit letter represents the journey of the human spirit towards eternal peace.

OM is everything.
OM represents all.
OM is the basis of your life, thought and intelligence.
OM is the name or symbol of God, Isvara or Brahman.
OM is your real name. OM covers all the threefold experiences of man.
OM stands for all the phenomenal worlds.
From OM this sense-universe has been projected.
The World exists in OM and dissolves in OM (AUM).

AUM: “A” represents the physical plane, “U” represents the mental plane and astral planes, the world of spirits, all heavens, “M” represents the deep sleep state, and all that is unknown even in your wakeful state, all that is beyond the reach of the intellect.

All words which denote the objects are Centred in OM. Hence the World has come from OM, rests in OM and dissolves in OM. – Sri Swami Sivananda
