Gurugram May 2018 | Preface
Blessed Self,
Om Namah Sivaya
We are glad to inform you that India high season is winding up but all 3 Ashrams in south are still running successful Yoga Vacation programs with still high number of guests. Europe is very busy as usual. Bahamas is very busy with full program and Ashram full of guests. South Asia and Americas are very busy as well. We are very grateful for all students support for the organization in spreading Swamiji’s teachings.
The ISYC Ashrams and Centres will be humbly celebrating H.H. Swami Vishnudevananda Ji’s Mahasamadhi Silver Jubilee in 2018 by organizing a Janma-Samadhi Yatra (JSY, Birth-Samadhi Pilgrimage). This will also be a curtain raiser for Swamiji’s birth centenary decade. The Yatra will move from Nemmara, Kerala, India (Swamiji’s birth place) to Netala, Uttarakand, Himalayas, India (Swamiji’s jalasamadhi place), starting on 24th September 2018. After visiting various holy places, Temples, Ashrams and affiliated Centres along the way the Yatra will conclude on the 11th November 2018, with a special program in Netala. Pranams to all.
There is really one Self which is the Absolute. The Relative Self is not something different from the Absolute Self, but it is only the Absolute Self experiencing, using the instrument of the mind. – Sri Swami Sivananda

Crave for a thing, you will get it. Renounce the craving, the object will follow you by itself. – Sri Swami Sivananda
Raja Yoga
From Discourse II: “Sadhana Pada- On Spiritual Disciplines”
II.21. TAD-ARTHA EVA DRSYASYATMA.
‘The very existence of the seen is for the Seer’.
Commentary:
The seen, Prakriti, exists for and is subordinate to the Seer, or Self. Its sole purpose is to provide experience for the growth and Self-Realization of man.
II.22. KRTARTHAM PRATI NASTAM APY ANASTAM TAD-ANYA-SADHARANATVAT.
‘Even though it (Prakriti) becomes non-existent for him who has fulfilled its purpose, it continues to exist for others for it is common to all’.
Commentary:
To one who has attained liberation, Prakriti ceases to exist, and its purposes has been carried out. But Nature, the phenomenal world, remains a common experience for those who have yet to realize the Self; it continues to exist for them.
Love all equally.– Sri Swami Sivananda
Bhagavad Gita Quote
From Chapter II: Sankhya Yoga
(Krishna speaking to Arjuna)
II.67. For the mind, which follows in the wake of the wandering senses, carries away his discrimination, as the wind (carries away) a boat on the waters.
COMMENTARY: The mind which constantly dwells on the sensual objects and moves in company with the senses destroys altogether the discrimination of the man. Just as the wind carries away a boat from its course, so also the mind carries away the aspirant
from his spiritual path and turns him toward the objects of the senses.
Live in the Centre. Live in Om. Live in Truth. – Sri Swami Sivananda

Glossary
NISHKAMA: Desireless; Selfless
Nishkama Karma Yoga – Desire-less action; selfless action; the practice of doing actions without any expectation of the fruits (results, reactions or effects)
In the practice of Nishkama Karma Yoga, there is no loss of effort. There is no harm. There is no transgression also. Even a little of this practice can protect those from great fear of rebirth, of death with its concomitant evils. An ordinary worldly-minded man can hardly hear the inner voice of Atma. He cannot get pure thoughts of Vichara also. Any Sattvic thought emanates from the Sattvic Buddhi. In the case of worldlings, all thoughts emanate from the mind only.
He who does Nishkama Karma Yoga and has purity of mind begins to entertain thoughts of God. Generally the mind raises various sorts of curious, fantastic thoughts. It deludes all. It may pretend to do Vichar. When it comes to practicality, it will do nothing. If there is serious determination in you to concentrate and meditate, and if you put it into actual practice for months steadily and if the longing for the Darshan of God or Self-realization becomes keen and acute, then alone think that all these kinds of thoughts proceed from your Sattvic Buddhi only.
Peace, cheerfulness, contentment, dispassion, fearlessness and an unperturbed state of mind under all conditions indicate that you are advancing in the spiritual path. – Sri Swami Sivananda
