More people registered for the upcoming retreat end of November. Bulk mailing of the brochure was done this month. Om Namah Sivaya. Early November started with Swami Vishnudevananda’s Mahasamadshi Puja, which we performed at a Wednesday evening Satsang. There were 18 people in attendance and, on the day after the US elections, it was the perfect time to come together in community and support, and to remember Swamiji, connect to his mission of peace, and start the healing process of a shocked and torn country. In addition to the Puja, we chanted Om Nama Narayanaya 108 times for world peace. There were some new programs added to the November and December calendar, so marketing efforts was our focus. Attendance was a little low after the elections, but by the following weekend we had good class sizes and a large group for the Sunday evening Satsang. The contract to start the construction work on the downstairs meditation and Satsang room was signed with work scheduled to begin soon.
During mid-November demolition began on the first floor meditation hall at the main Centre building. The building was built in 1914 and being over 100 years old is in need of several renovations. The plaster walls were torn down in preparation for new insulation and sheet rock. This created heavy black dust throughout the entire building and staff needed to stay on top of cleaning each day after the workers left. Staff were encouraged to wear protective masks as to not breath in the debris. We had several karma yogis helping with the clean-up, which will be a month long process. The construction project is scheduled to be completed by years end. Meanwhile a new Yoga and Meditation 2 started. Staff needed to cover classes more that usual as several teachers were out of town for various reasons. Our sweet cat Jaya helped keep our spirits up. By the grace of Master and Swamiji, Satsang attendance was growing with several regulars joining us for morning meditation. Radha (Gloria McCartney) lead an evening Satsang on the topic of Gratitude. We had a good turn out and as always, appreciated Radha’a support of the Centre. Staff are well, grateful for the protection of the Gurus, and send pranams to all. Om Shanti, Shanti, Shantihi.

During mid-November we started with several courses as well as with Meditation course with six motivated students. We held a workshop “The Four Paths of Yoga” for the first time where students could enjoy some practices as well as theory. Our main focus however was to prepare everything for the upcoming special program with Swami Sivadasananda. We dedicated time to the good cleaning & organizing of the whole Centre. We were happy to share our time with many karma yogis. OM.

SANNYASANA – [Sanskrit] – [nyasa] renunciation; abandonment. A member of the sannyasa order is known as a sannyasin (male) or sannyasini (female); one who abandons or resigns from worldy affairs. Brahman in the fourth order.
Commentary from Swami Sivananda –
Who is a Sannyasin?
A Sannyasin has a different angle of vision of the worldly affairs, looking upon everything from an absolutely different point of view. Just as the man who wears green spectacles sees green objects everywhere, so also a Sannyasin/Jnani sees the Atman everywhere through his new eye of wisdom. There is absolutely no personal element in him. He has not a bit of selfish interest. The lower self is completely annihilated. He lives for serving all. He feels the world as his own Self. He actually feels that all is himself only. There is not a single thought or feeling for his personal little self. He has cosmic vision and cosmic feeling. Just as the river has joined the ocean, he has joined the ocean of bliss, knowledge and consciousness. He thinks and feels and works for others.
A Sannyasin is absolutely free from worries, difficulties, troubles, tribulations, sorrow and anxieties under any circumstance or condition. He is always cheerful and happy. He is not a slave or victim of different moods. He is not moved a bit by sorrow, grief or persecution.
A Sannyasin has got all-round development. He has spotless or unblemished character. All sattwic virtues shine in him. He is an embodiment of mercy, sympathy, love, patience, serenity, etc. He has high qualities. The whole nature has been perfectly unfolded. All divine attributes are fully awakened in him.
The life of Jesus shows how a real Sannyasin will behave. A Sannyasin is a very good and extremely virtuous person, with no attachment to the world. He may live in the forest or in the city. He will always be thinking of God and of the welfare of other people. He will keep his mind and heart quite pure. He is without anger, without hatred, is truthful and kind. He wants no luxuries but just enough food to keep him alive. He wears very simple dress. He has no family and children and property. Yet he is extremely happy. He is wise and virtuous. He possesses divine qualities such as mercy, universal love, truthfulness, purity. He has control over his mind and senses. He is free from anger, lust, greed, pride, jealousy. He loves all. He always prays and meditates. He never does any harm to anybody. People respect and adore him.
Where is God? Look within. – Sri Swami Sivananda
