On both days we joined the Pujas which priest Yagneswara Dixit performed online from India. We welcomed Swami Sivadasananda and Swami Narayanananda for a short visit to the Centre coming from the Sivananda Yoga Retreat House in Reith/Tyrol/Austria for a meeting with our landlord concerning the prolongation of our lease.
Mid month a Yoga 4 course started. It was inspiring to see how much progress the participants had made since they started with Yoga 1 a few weeks ago. We shifted our free trial class from Thursday 8 pm (which proved to be too late for many people) to Saturday 2 pm (which was a good time last year). We had a beautiful Sunday Satsang for a number of long time students and devoted souls. Some of the Centre’s teachers came back from their yoga vacation at the Retreat house in Reith / Tyrol / Austria. They returned to their teaching in good spirits and recharged. Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, New York, USA
Om Namah Sivaya from Manhattan. On the last day of August we saw another big storm, bigger than before. The basement was flooded again – about one foot! It took about three days for the water to dry out. On the bright side the in-person classes saw increased attendance. We also celebrated Krishna Jayanti. A few other devotees also joined. We collected all the Krishna Murtis in the house for the Puja. The murtis looked fancy and resplendent. We anticipated the upcoming season of festivals – with Ganesh Chaturthi round the corner and Navaratri following. We send our blessings for all to stay healthy, positive and strong in Sadhana! Join us online for courses, studies, Satsangs and yoga classes. May Gurudev’s blessings continue to light our path. Om.
Centre de Yoga Sivananda Vedanta, Paris, France
Om Namah Sivaya. In September, Life gave us an uplifting week with the Celebration of Masters’ birthday and Ganesha Chaturti. Kamala Devi from Germany and Parvati from Paris assisted the staff with the preparations of the evening Puja. There was a peaceful atmosphere. We all appreciated the occasion to tune with Swami Sivananda’s energy and teachings. It was an auspicious day starting with the Ganesha Puja, led by the priest from Bangalore. We did a second Puja again on Saturday evening during Satsang. Everyone expressed their gratitude to Lord Ganesha with flowers, mantras, kirtans and delicious Ladus. A yoga 1 and yoga 2 started, as well as, a meditation course. There was a headstand workshop with a group of students who were happy to be upside down. The workers were repairing the roof. We had to cancel a couple of classes because of the noise. Cheerful days with many students calling, passing by and coming for the open classes and courses. The Masters sent precious and unexpected help. Orleans conducted four of the online classes. Some new graduated TTC’s arrived to do karma yoga and will continue to come regularly. The staff and the senior karma yogis trained the new karma yogis in the different departments: kitchen, reception, boutique, plants and maintenance. There was a festive atmosphere with the karma yogis putting a dose of sattva here and there. The evenings were crowded with some more Beginners’ Yoga courses parallel to the open classes. The meditation course continued. There was a workshop on how to control anger with a couple of students. The staff appreciated Swami Kailasananda’s inspiring online course on the topic “Living without Fear”. We made plans to record the Hatha Yoga inspirations. Both courses are precious for everyone. We celebrated Gangas’ birthday with all the inspiring letters from the chapter nil desperandum and with many kirtans. Ananda, Vyasa and Daya came to support the Centre for a couple of days. We were happy to see Saraswati who came to Paris in order to see her parents and to go to the dentist. Swami Nityananda went to Orleans for the inauguration of the Academy. Vasishta took care of the Centre with the support of Gopala, Daya, Vyasa, Omkari, Ganga and the karma yogis. Kaivalya led a public Satsang on the topic of unity from many writings of Swami Sivananda. The inside plants were eaten by green caterpillars. We treated them with black soap. Swami Jyotirmayananda and Swami Nityananda arrived from Orleans just before a special Sarasvati Puja with Bangalore for the students of the academy. That day, Swami Jyotirmayananda gave an inspiring Satsang on the topic of generosity with a Lakshmi Ashtakam and a little story appreciated by all. The workers continued with the reparation of the roof. It was less noisy than last week. We continued to chant daily for peace, to do an online Satsang once a week with Reith, to do the weekly Puja on Fridays’ with the priest from Bangalore and to do the fire of yoga with some teachers. May Swami Sivananda and Swami Vishnudevananda continue to guide and to inspire all of us. With all our wishes for health and peace. OM.

Adapt yourself to your surroundings and environments. You will enjoy peace and strength. – Sri Swami Sivananda
TYAGA – renunciation; giving up with generosity what one could probably have kept
There are three kinds of Tyāga – Sattvika, Rajasika and Tamasika. Whereas acts of sacrifice, charity and penance, the purifiers of wise men, must be performed without attachment and hope of award.
Renunciation of physical objects is no renunciation at all. The real Tyaga (renunciation) consists in the renunciation of egoism (Ahankara). If you can renounce this Ahankara, you have renounced everything else in the world. If the subtle Ahankara is given up, Dehadhyasa (identification with the body) automatically goes away.
Hope and anticipation are the opposite of Vairagya and Tyaga. They fatten the mind. To be perfectly hopeless is a very high state for a philosopher. It is a very bad state for worldlings. They always say with contempt: “He is a hopeless man.” Worldlings and philosophers move towards diametrically opposite poles.
The mind is the all-in-all and its mastery leads to the renunciation of all. Chitta-Tyaga alone constitutes the renunciation of all. True renunciation lies in the abnegation of the mind. It consists in renouncing all desires and egoism and not world-existence. Through such a mental abnegation, you will be able to free yourself from all pain. Then will come immortality in life or enjoyment of the infinite delight of existence free from ego, founded on oneness of all in Brahman.
You must renounce the Tyagabhimana also. The Tyagabhimana is very deep-rooted. You must renounce the idea, “I have renounced everything.”
Everything happens for a reason. Develop faith that you will understand everything and see the bigger picture in due time. – Sri Swami Sivananda
