Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Zentrum, Berlin, Germany
Om Namah Sivaya. The Center has become more active in the past few weeks. Classes and courses have been well attended, and on some days the atmosphere is almost as it was before the pandemic. The reception area is bustling, and students are once again enjoying tea, soup and cookies after class. They are happy to be in this relaxed and positive atmosphere.
Students loved the Sunday Prayers at Satsang following our fully booked yoga class early in the month. The wholehearted chanting uplifted the energy of everybody present.
We started several new courses: a Yoga Beginners’ course, a Thought Power course, Meditation 2 and several higher courses. In early November we had a workshop on “How to Overcome Fear”, a topic which is an issue for many people. We discussed the yogic approach to fear and how to conquer it based on the writings of Swami Sivananda.
Mid-way through November we had a successful Open House. Students enjoyed the asana demonstration, trial class and introduction to meditation. Some registered for Yoga 1, while others bought cards for the Drop-In classes. A highlight for the Center was a Sunday afternoon class with Swami Sivadasananda followed by a very inspiring Satsang on the impact of mantras on our physical and astral body. Many teachers and close students joined. The energy in the center was uplifted and joyful.
Karma Yogis and teachers are very supportive with teaching, reception, ironing and keeping the center clean. Some students brought flowers for the Altar which is shining and radiating peace. We are grateful to be able to serve.
We had a small group for the Headstand workshop at the end of the month and everybody did very well. We had a Kids Yoga class for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, and there was a nice group of lovely children with a new teacher who just finished TTC this summer. Swami Sivadasananda and Swami Narayanananda were still here on Monday for the preparation of the special program in January. We are grateful for their guidance and support. We continued the maintenance projects with the help of dedicated Karma yogis and painted one room, which now looks fresh and full of prana. Om shanti.

Prayers and Greetings from Chennai Centre. All is well here. We began the month with a Beginners’ course and hosted a group of tourists from France who attended a trial class. Early in the month we had to cancel some open classes due to bad weather. The heavy rain continued to lash Chennai well into the middle of November, but we were still able to welcome a yoga vacationer from the USA.
Around 40 people attended Swamiji’s Mahasamadhi Pooja on the 9th November followed by a delicious feast.
Chennai’s studio work is almost complete, and now we are gearing up for some special online courses.
In early November our Centre Director Gopan attended the 6th National Yoga conference held by The Department of Atomic Energy Sports & Cultural Council and NFC Works Committee at Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC), Hyderabad. Around 400-500 Scientists from all over the country participated.
Chennai is now having its coolest season of the year, so student numbers are increasing. A recent highlight was the five-day course on “Pranayama & Meditation at Brahmamuhurta” led by Uma Natarajan. Around twelve enthusiastic students registered for the program. They thanked us for helping them to set up their practice at 4:30 in the morning. It was quite an interactive session. We also organised a special trial class for some tourists from Germany, as well as a special class for some kids in a nearby neighbourhood. Around 25 kids attended the programme.
At the end of the month we began an online Beginners’ course and eight students have registered for the program. Also, some of our trustee members along with staff visited the centre for Ahobilam temple visit.
We concluded the month with a two day Asana Variation workshop led by Gopan. We end each week with Satsang. Sending our pranams to all.

On the weekends we focused on Asana Correction internal training for new staff. On our day off we went to the Health House in the Ashram to visit and connect with the energy there. All of the staff were very happy. We have the internal practice of non-violent communication by listening and not interrupting others. This helps us to have more positive thought and connection to each other.
In the final week we a organized Syhet practicum “Yoga for Stress relief Course” for Syhet mentees. The students’ feedback was very good and they got a lot of benefit from the course.

A new “Ayurveda for Beginners” course began, with the students a showing a deep interest in Ayurveda teaching which is new and attractive to them. We also began two new Yoga for Beginners courses. The Yoga for Kids course went very well with creative classes in which the children learned how to play music and create musical instruments. Also, they were happy to listen to insightful stories of the Deities. They also learned how to choose sattvic food, rather than rajasic and tamasic food. The course finished with the Bento workshop. They learned how to prepare a beautiful meal box from home to carry to school. In the end, the parents gathered up to discuss and come to the agreement that they want the Center to continue the Kids yoga course. We also had a kirtan workshop for the staff, karma yogis and guests to learn new chants.
On the final Sunday of the month, we had Yoga class outdoors in Tao Dan park. Everyone enjoyed practicing in the fresh and lovely atmosphere.

We appreciated an interesting documentary of Jaipur and magnanimous images of the Himalayas inviting us to tune with the infinite.
The staff did a beautiful Puja for Swamiji’s Maha and Jala Samadhi. There was an uplifting mood after the Puja with a little sunshine and a beautiful rose in the peace garden.
The music of the rain accompanied the meditations and the final relaxations. Life gave as enough sunshine to eat outside a couple of days.
Christmas is in the air. The staff and the karma yogis are enjoying the rehearsals of the play. Om shanti.
Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, Los Angeles, CA, USA
Om Namah Sivaya. The LA Center launched a monthly weekend of Ayurvedic Body Treatments. Appointments were filled and all were blissful. The weekend talks in early November were on the theme of Vedic Astrology. New to the Center, Vish Chatterji gave a clear and well-received Introduction to Jyotish. He immediately attracted students for a Vedic Astrology course which he has offered to start at the Center in 2023. The effects of his sadhana are palpable. Always popular, Komilla Sutton presented on Challenging Planets on Sunday online. We began a Yoga 2 course and planned programming for the first quarter of 2023 with a focus on Health.
In mid-November we had a successful Open House with lots of good questions and genuine interest. One woman was making a happy return to Sivananda Yoga after many years away. She said her husband fondly remembers the look on her face when she would come home from yoga and encouraged her to start coming again. We didn’t want to stop singing at the end of the Kirtan Workshop on Sunday. We also finished a Meditation 1 course and started Meditation 2.
Later in the month Swami Pranavananda taught a Headstand Workshop. Fifteen extra people joined the Sunday Open Class via the Black Everywhere group. They are enthusiastic and committed to joining us monthly as a group. Swami Sivasankariananda flew to San Francisco to join the second in-person program for our students there. Attendance was good and the support strong. We visited a location that could be used for weekly classes and other programs in San Francisco. Staff toured Homeboy Industries in downtown LA and were inspired by the positive environment, the wealth of opportunities and the transformation of so many former gang members.
We bid farewell to Swami Pranavananda on Monday as he headed back to Vietnam. We drove to the Yoga Farm for Thanksgiving, enjoying the fall foliage. It was a great group and wonderful to see presenters/old friends in person—Swamini Svatmavidyananda and Durga Leela. Swami Sitaramananda’s talk on Karma was a highlight. Swami Sivasankariananda taught Yoga for Anxiety and, on the last day, a restorative yoga class. The program left us in high spirits, inspired to go home and teach! The LA retreat guest we brought with us was visibly moved by the experience. We are grateful to serve.
Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, Madrid, Spain
Om Namah Sivaya. Several courses started with good participation, including a Yoga 1 weekend intensive. We saw more students in the Open classes and preparations for the November Festival continued with good support from the students and many enrolments were received. Our Sunday Satsang was about How to Improve Concentration.
In mid-November we were blessed with a beautiful Autumn festival “Light, Power and Wisdom”, with Swami Sivadasananda, Gopala, Swami Santoshananda and senior teachers of the Center: the asana classes and lectures were inspiring and we had an uplifting morning and evening Satsang . An extra space outside the Center allowed a comfortable practice for everyone. Festive bandharas were prepared by a nearby Indian restaurant and brought to the Center each day. Teachers from all over Spain traveled to Madrid for the occasion to join the Festival after three years. It was a joy to see the Center shining with so many smiling faces.
The uplifting energy from the Festival was still very tangible moving into late November. Two new Beginners courses started with good attendance. We had a successful Cooking course with online and onsite participants. Ingredients were sent previously to the online students so they could cook at home simultaneously. The recipes were tasty and the atmosphere sattvic. Sunday Satsang saw eight newcomers, and some came for trial class the next day.
The Madrid brochure for 2023 was sent to the printer and the coming location for TTC Spain in August was confirmed to be Aluenda again (Northeast Spain). The weekend saw the traditional Autumn retreat in the Madrid mountains with twenty-three students participating, many of them beginners. The friendly weather allowed nice walks. It was a good month. We are grateful to Master and Swamiji for inspiring so many souls on their path.

The Centre was happy to be joined by Narayana and some Karma yogis who came from Orleans to fix the sound system, and uplifted by the presence of Swami Kailasananda and our gurubais Rukmini and Parvati who passed by on their way back from Rudraprayag to the Ashram. Swamiji guided the staff with the upcoming events of the Christmas party and the Teachers’ Day. We had inspiring evening Satsangs on “Bhakti Yoga”, “Patanjali’s Raja Yoga sutras” and “Intuition”.
On the Teachers’ Day, Swami Kailasananda gave an inspiring talk on “How to develop stability in this changing world” to the thirty-three active teachers who gathered in the Centre for the programme. Saraswati came from the ashram to give an asana workshop well appreciated by everyone on how to adjust the postures. In the evening Swamiji gave a beautiful evening satsang on the topic of “Detachment”. There was a joyful mood to be all together feeling that we are all part of the Sivananda family.

Om Namah Sivaya. We had a beautiful graduation of the TTC which was held in Mata Ashram. All the students passed the exam. It was a beautiful event full of blessings and warm regards. Following the graduation we helped the new teachers to get more experience in teaching. Every day a new teacher came to the Center to teach the staff and receive feedback. We also encouraged them to come for Satsangs, yoga classes and different activities of the Center. They joined as assistants in the courses of the Center.

Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, Vienna, Austria
Om Namah Sivaya. Our four-day Yoga Retreat at the Sivananda Yoga Retreat House in Reith Tyrol, Austria continued in early November. The students were highly inspired by the programme and the beautiful location, and are already looking forward to their next stay. Later, a group of teenagers from a nearby Federal Upper Secondary School came to the Centre to have an authentic Yoga experience. They were part of a special ethics education class where they had also been talking about the philosophy of Yoga. They participated with ease in the trial class we offered and attentively listened to the short talk on the Five Points of Yoga and ethics. During the following snack many inspired questions came.
The following weekend we had an Asana workshop on Flexibility of the Spine which was well attended. Also our new TTCs are successfully continuing to assist at classes and support the Centre with Karma Yoga. They are looking forward to be teaching soon.
In mid-November a Yoga 1 and a Yoga 2 course began with some inspired students in addition to the second part of a course on Asanas and Body Awareness, with all participants form course 1 continuing. A new Bhagavad Gita course also started with a highly motivated group of students and teachers. The highlight of the week was the Puja for Swami Vishnudevananda’s Mahasamadhi which we celebrated with some teachers and close students. The following weekend we had an Open House with many students who wanted to experience the benefits of Yoga. They felt at home in the warm-hearted atmosphere of the Centre. Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, Vilnuis, Lithuania
Om Namah Sivaya. The Yoga Centre was closed during the 1st to 2nd November holidays. In Lithuania there is a very strong tradition of visiting the graves of family members and meeting with relatives. We are glad that at least at the end of the week a good number of students participated in the Satsangs and asana classes. The autumn is so mild that it is still not freezing in the hall and it is possible to keep the premises reasonably well ventilated. In the Satsangs we read passages from The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga and Meditation and Mantras allowing us to go deeper into the subject and to learn more of pranayama, concentration, and meditation.
The Centre became very busy in mid-November with six Beginners’ course classes, Yoga 1 and 2 at different days and times each week. A two-part course on Vegetarian Nutrition started with a two-hour lecture on the principles, doshas, six tastes, and gunas according to Ayurveda with learning how to make ghee and paneer. Even after two hours the participants didn’t want to leave, they had many practical questions on the nutrition. The lecture was given by Bharata, who has been studying this subject for many years. On the following weekend the Centre was full of prana: the Satsang was very well attended, the asana students barely fit in the large hall. Parvati made a delicious lunch for everyone. A small group of people attended the Open Day: a practical asana class, a lecture and fresh vegetarian soup. At the same time, a two-hour Introduction to Meditation was happening in the Meditation Hall.
In Satsangs we read from the book dedicated to Swamiji The Great Vision. Especially the passages and reflections from the chapters “The struggle” and “Becoming one with the guru” touched everyone. The realisation that everybody, even Yoga Masters, are sometimes filled with doubts, the idea that in Ashrams and Yoga Centres there are the same people, with their different minds and samskaras, characters, and habits, allows us to experience more oneness and thus compassion and to live in a more friendly way and to have less self-blame for the failures on the spiritual path.
The following weekend we decided to serve a simpler meal: a hearty dal with vegetables, home-baked bread and various kinds of pakoras. Three of us cooked the pakoras in four pans, but everyone was happy. One of our closest Karma yogis did the important job of hand-washing the yoga mats.
As the Christmas rush hasn’t started yet, we’ve had a good number of students at the Centre for courses, asanas and Satsangs. The last Saturday of the month was particularly active. In addition to making lunch for the students, the cooking workshop started immediately afterwards in the kitchen. The menu was quite elaborate, and students even learnt how to make a Palak paneer. The students were actively involved in preparing and cutting vegetables, etc. They were very satisfied and left happy and inspired. Thanks to Padmini, who helped to tidy up and clean everything. The students helped too. The centre’s focus is now on preparing for the Christmas party, negotiating and looking for a new place for the TTC in Lithuania in summer 2023. Om shanti.
