Sivananda World News: The Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres

Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Zentrum, Berlin, Germany

Om Namah Sivaya! Summer vacation ended at the beginning of this month, students slowly returning to their regular rhythm of practice. One highlight was the Ganesha Puja. Close students and staff joined and the energy was sweet and positive and elevated our meditation room for several days. We also had a well attended weekend course on thought power “Easy steps to thought control”. Students left the course highly inspired to work on their energy level and thinking patterns. The next highlight was Swami Sivananda’s Birthday which was celebrated with a morning Pooja. The Altar was nicely decorated and the energy was loving, warm and intense. Master’s energy was clearly present still some days after the celebration. Our Open House this month was also well attended. A nice mixed group of newcomers joined for the whole program and was inspired to start their Yoga practice right away. Finally we had a one day weekend seminar on Yoga for the back including a workshop “Happy back”, which were both well attended. The participants were very interested to experience the holistic approach to a healthy back. One main activity in the Centre was the final preparation for the TTC and the Yoga vacation program in Ustka, Poland. In an inspiring collective effort staff and many Karma Yogis were packing the equipment which was shipped to Poland. Some days later Swami Gokulananda departed for Ustka for teaching the course. Satsangs and classes were well attended. All are well. OM.

Om Namah Sivaya. September was special because of Master’s Birthday and also Onam. Regular classes were held throughout the simultaneous preparations for the special events, including giving out invitations and ordering t-shirts for the occasion. Staff, with the guidance of Sanju, prepared delicious items for all the outside teachers to celebrate Onam. We enjoyed paysam, kerala rice, sambar, avial, and different pickles which made us nostalgic of Ashram feasts. All the hard work paid off as all the teachers went home fully satisfied. On the 8th we celebrated Swami Sivananda ji’s birthday, starting off the day with powerful Havan and in the evening we had a small Satsang after which we witnessed an incredible Bharatnatyam performance by artists of Ganesh Natyaranjini. We devoured rich food soon after Aarti. About 200 people turned up. We were overjoyed to see so many people come and connect with each other and the Centre because of Master Swami Sivananda. Arjun left after 3 months of service. All the staff visited the Kailash Colony Centre to take part in a Satsang led by Prahlad ji, with all feeling energized and positive after spending time in his company. Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, New York, USA

Om Namah Sivaya from Manhattan. In September we started refreshed and full of Prana from our Labor Day weekend at the Ranch. Opening the Centre’s doors again on Tuesday, a flock of familiar faces came for the open classes. Neeti also had her last class for the Positive Thinking course and some students considered taking the next upcoming Meditation Course! We were blessed with a visit from Swami Satyapremananda. She came to lead the Satsang, a very beautiful Satsang. She gave a special session on her favorite thing – KIRTAN and explained the meaning of Hara, Hari & Hare. It just shined right through how much she loves chanting. The energy was high and everyone left with a smile on their face! As always we were grateful, grateful & grateful! We also welcomed a new Karma Yogi to the Centre. Her name is Stella, originally from Colombia, an artist as well as computer savvy!  She helped us with housekeeping and creating graphic designs for the Centre. We were happy to have her on the team! Padmavati from Philadelphia arrived. Originally from Japan, she has spent a lot of time serving in California at the Yoga Farm. She came to hold a 2 day course on “How to Teach Yoga for Seniors” which successfully happened one Saturday and Sunday. It was a very good and extensive course. Everyone that took the course were more than satisfied. We thanked Padmavati for her lovely presence and sharing of knowledge! We wished Shakti off as she went to the Ranch for Sadhana Intensive! We were very excited for her and she is too, although she remains humble about it. We looked forward to seeing her after the course. In the evening, Neeti held the Sunday Satsang. We chanted the classic Sunday Prayers and then Neeti gave a talk on Karma Yoga as well as referring to some verses in the Bhagavad Gita. The superb Satsang was followed by a wonderful kitchari, made by Tandava! All of our staff are doing great. We send our pranams! Om.

Centre de Yoga Sivananda Vedanta, Paris, France

Om Namah Sivaya. The Centre is back in shape after 2 months of major renovations.  The Masters sent an army of karma yogis to clean layers and layers of dust from everywhere. Swami Kailasananda guided everybody to bring the sattva back little by little. The Main Altar came to life again. The priest stayed in the Centre for few days, he did many Pujas and the purification of the building. The energy came back with some inspiring Satsangs given by Swami Kailasananda, the visit of the priest, The Masters’ Anniversary, many Pujas, an uplifting programme given by the Acharyas and the Celebration of Navaratri. The staff team changed. Shambhu went home to have a family life. Radhika left the staff life but willo continue to come as a karma yogi. Sivani came from London. Arjuna will stay for one year. Sivakami twisted her ankle on top of the broken elbow she had. But she’s ok and the elbow is healing. Little by little Sivakami finds again her rhythm. Sivani is already in tune with the Centre. She has been of great help since her arrival at the beginning of the month. Arjuna is a precious support for the Centre. The priest performed Pujas for: the Murtis of the Main altar, for the Sivalingam, a Puja for Ganesha, a Puja for all the mothers Puja, Krishna Puja,  Guru Puja and a Sudarshan Yantra Puja. He also broke a coconut in the courtyard. After having this huge tent for 2 months, everything seems possible in the courtyard. The neighbors got used to Satsangs and Pujas. He led the chant of  the Lalita Sahasranama and the Mahishasura Mardini stotra daily. The students appreciated the building looking fresh and different. The Centre looks festive and beautiful. They also appreciated to be again in the energy of the Centre. In between all the special events and the preparations, the staff went on little yatra to an Indian Temple a ten minutes’ walk from the Centre. For the Open House, 465 students visited the Centre for the regular classes and the activities of the day. 138 people were there for the trial class. The new comers got inspired by the energy and the teachings of the Masters. That day, during the evening Satsang the priest chanted some mantras and told a little guru story. Life gave us an uplifting time with The  60 years’ five day Celebration, the presence of the Acharyas and The Navaratri Pujas. The Masters sent good help to support the Centre. Swami Durgananda gave a lecture which inspired all of us with a fresh, straight forward and deep words on the topic of “how to develop intuition”. Swami Sivadasananda  gave asana classes which refreshed our practice and gave a deeper feeling of the practice. Swamiji gave also an interesting lecture entitled ‘The transforming power of sound”. Swami Kailasananda gave two inspiring lectures on the topics of   ‘Concentration: the key successes’ and ‘Sattva: The energy of purity’. She also did a photo presentation about the Life of Swami Vishnudevananda. The teachings of the Srimad Bhagavatam and the music with Sri Venugopal Goswami were nectar to our souls and prem to our hearts. During Navaratri we had the fourth first Pujas in the morning with the staff and the fifth one on Sunday in the evening with the students. For all the Pujas we had the Devi Mahatmya. Swami Gopalananda and Swami Mangalananda came from Orleans each one for one day to attend the programme. OM.
